Forums Added

A Forums section has been added to provide better discussion and support for our growing community of users.  Feel free to post any questions, concerns, bug reports, and feature requests.

Starting now, all new feature announcements and site news will also be posted there.  Please adjust your RSS feeds if you subscribe to the News category.  As much as possible, we want the front page reserved for our members.  To blog about their stocks of course!

Relative Rankings

We are pleased to announce the Rankings page now shows your relative performance: 1 Day, 1 Week, 1 Month, 3 Month, and since Inception.  Thanks for being patient as we know some members have been performing well of late, yet this was not reflected in their rankings.

You can also sort on every column.  The default sorting is “1 Month”.  As time goes on, we will bump it up to “3 Month” and “6 Month” and then hopefully “3 Year”.  We want to emphasize long-term performance as much as possible here on StokBlogs.

New Feature: Recent Trades

On the right side of the page, underneath the categories and navigation blocks, you will notice two new blocks:  Recent Comments and Recent Trades.

The comments let you see exactly what people are saying about our articles.  And the trades are what stocks our members have recently bought and sold.  All this, of course, is so you can easily watch the daily activity here on StokBlogs.

If you haven’t already done so, please create an account and start StokBlogging today.  Accounts are FREE and every user gets a model portfolio and their own blog.  Click here for more information.

Forums and dividends are coming soon!  Want more features?  Please send requests to .

New Feature: Portfolio RSS Feeds

Want to track what your favorite StokBlog investor is buying?   Or perhaps selling?  Do you want to be instantly notified when they make a trade?  Well now you can subscribe to an RSS feed of each member’s portfolio transactions.  Just look for the RSS  link underneath each portfolio.

For those of you who have no clue what RSS is, you really don’t know what you’re missing!  RSS is the fastest and most efficient way to read the latest articles from websites.  Click here to learn more about this revolutionary technology...

Introducing Michael Sharp

I would like to welcome my good friend, and fellow investor, Michael Sharp to StokBlogs.  Mike has actually already written a couple of excellent articles.  They are located here and here.  They have both been promoted to the front page as well.  His personal blog is http://www.theowong.com/user/24/blog and his RSS feed is http://www.theowong.com/blog/24/feed.

Mike and I have known each other for many years.  In fact, he is the one who got me started learning about Ben Graham and quantitative analysis.  Mike is also one of the most independent thinkers I know and an excellent stock picker.  I look forward to reading all his articles.

Changes to My Portfolio and RSS Feeds

My portfolio has been converted to the new style.  As much as possible, the percentage of each stock holding matches that of my real portfolio.  But from now on I will not be reporting the exact price of my purchases.  Rather, I will be using the website’s virtual trading system like everyone else.  This keeps things fair.

The main RSS feed has also changed.  All articles from every member are being promoted to the main RSS feed that you are probably using today.  Keep the subscription if you want to read all articles.  But every member has their own personal feed as well.  Mine is:  http://www.theowong.com/blog/1/feed.

MAJOR SITE CHANGES – StokBlogs - Please Read!

I started Investor Clarity in February 2005 to help my friends learn investing.  But since then, I discovered something quite profound.  Writing, it seems, leads you to clarity!  Each time I sit down to write an article, for example, I end up doing a great deal of research and meticulous fact-finding.  Explaining ideas to others forces you to organize your own thoughts.  It forces you to be clear.  All this makes me realize what I know, or don’t know, and I always end up learning more.  The net result: I am a better investor today.

After talking with other investors – friends, family, and people from all over the world who have emailed me – it became apparent that they too should be blogging.  They all have knowledge to share and could benefit from the clarity.  This is why I have opened up my site for others to blog.  In fact, anybody who has an account can start blogging today.  If you don’t have an account, it takes 5 minutes to create one – and it’s free.  If you have a blog on another site, but want to switch, send me an email and I will gladly help migrate your content - again for free!

A major difference between my new site, StokBlogs, and other services, like Blogger, is a specialization for stocks.  Every member will have an investor profile to describe your experience.  You will also be given a model portfolio of $100,000.  So not only do you blog about stocks, you add them to your portfolio.  Readers will then be able to follow those stocks every day.  In other words, you won’t just be publishing – you will be teaching by example.

In addition, all portfolios will be ranked by market value.  That way, readers can tell who knows their stuff.  They will be able to see, over time, whether your analysis was right or wrong.  You will see whether you are improving.  Not only that, but knowing how well you rank amongst your peers can help you learn from them too.  Everybody learns!  Click here for more details and other features.

Have a look around.  Enjoy!  We, at StokBlogs, hope to continue our mission of bringing clarity to the field of investing.

Sincerely,

- theo

Anonymous Comments Enabled

Anonymous comments are now enabled. It was turned off because of my concerns with comment spam. But I really want to encourage people to get involved and share their ideas. So we'll try this out.

Portfolio Updated

I have started updating my portfolio more often now – at least once a month. Since there is no RSS feed in the Portfolio page, I will post an article on the front page after each monthly update. I am also looking into either writing or finding software that I can use to track the portfolio performance on this site. Please e-mail me if you have any suggestions.

Screens Added

I have always thought reading material alone is somewhat ineffective without relevant examples. Hence, I have removed the Links page in favor of a new Screens page. There you will find a list of my favorite stock screens – that you can use – along with links to supporting articles.
